Hidden Gems of Myrtle Beach

Looking at Myrtle Beach from the outside you imagine it as the best beach town in South Carolina. You arrive and see 60 miles of beach, golf carts, and mopeds in the streets, and people walking around in their RVCA or Billabong swimsuits carrying surfboards. What if we told you there is more to Myrtle Beach than beaches?

There are a few hidden gems in Myrtle Beach that will enhance your experience as a tourist, so you can see what the locals like to do for fun. The first place to visit is Market Commons. Located just south of the boulevard, near the old Airforce base, Market Commons has grown to be a hot spot for drinking, great food, and even outdoor activities! A few of the outdoor activities you can do there is walk the 3-mile loop that encompasses a park for children! This park, Savannahs Park, was created for children with special needs, so they too can enjoy all the perks of an outdoor park. After a day at the park head on over to Gordon Biersch or Tupelo Honey for an upscale dining experience!

If you like to hike and be outdoors, and not just on a beach, there is a 3 and 7-mile outdoor trail on the backside of River Oaks called the Hulk! Here you can take a bike and bike through the trails, or take a leisurely walk, jog, or run on the 7-mile loop that takes you through shaded woods and open fields! It’s the best of both worlds.

If you like to go to bars, but don’t want the crowds of clubs or Broadway at The Beach, visit the MarshWalk in Murrells Inlet. Murrells inlet is a hub for great seafood, hush puppies, and acoustic live music. The best part is behind the row of restaurants is a marsh walk that allows you to drink with open containers and walk around and socialize!

There is more to Myrtle Beach than meets the eye. On your next trip, check out all the hidden gems it has to offer!
